A unit of the US Air Force decided to drill against drones in 2016 in San Antonio with the 25th Air Force. The training apparently came as a result of a real incident where a small surveillance drone was rigged with an IED so that it injured local forces that picked it up. “Due to the need for a quick response, the 15th Intelligence Squadron was tasked to support U. S. Air Forces Central Command and U. S. Central Command to resolve the issue.

The goal was to cut by 90% the time needed to deploy a solution. “A collaborative effort, 15th Intelligence Squdron Airmen, along with their counterparts across the country, utilized intelligence to create a targeting analysis product to address the new tactic being used against coalition forces in Operation Inherent Resolve.”
