Indian media report the increased use of drones in the wake of the clashes with China in Ladakh. It could help reduce tensions to have UAVs in the sky rather than people on the ground during the tense time.
The Hindustan Times notes: “stand-off with a belligerent Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) at four points in East Ladakh , India has increased technical drone surveillance of the area even as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has inducted more battalions into the sector to support army along the 3,488 km Line of Actual Control (LAC), government and military officials familiar with the matter said.”
The article goes on to note that the National Technical Research Organization (NTRO) “have been asked to deploy more surveillance drones in the area so that the battle theatre becomes more transparent.” he report also notes that the “Israeli Heron’ is among those used and ha China has the Wing Long drone, which Indian media called “unproven.” It said India wants “armed drones” from the US or other countries.
