Iran “celebrates” its 3rd Khordad system anniversary of shooting down US Global Hawk

By SETH J. FRANTZMAN

Iran has celebrated the downing of a US drone a year ago by hosting a “3rd Khordad” celebration where families can pose with the weapons system that shot down the Global Hawk. “On the first anniversary of shooting down the American MQ-4C spy unmanned aircraft, the 3rd of Khordad missile system went on display to the public in Chitgar Lake, Northwestern Tehran, Iran.”

Iran now calls it the “mythical” missile that brought down the “Triton” version of the Global Hawk, a machine that costs almost $200 million and was being used as a Broad Area Marine Surveillance program over the Gulf of Oman and Straits of Hormuz area near Iran. It was downed during US-Iran tensions in 2019.
